Product Description

NH-U14S header

The NH-U14S is the 14cm top model of Noctua’s classic U-series single tower CPU coolers, which have received more than 400 awards and recommendations from the international press. While the large, six heatpipe design and the NF-A15 140mm fan with PWM support for fully automatic speed control allow the cooler to best the renowned quiet cooling performance of all other U-series coolers, its 52mm slim shape still assures full compatibility with tall RAM modules on AM5/AM4. Topped off with the trusted, pro-grade SecuFirm2 multi-socket mounting system and Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound, the NH-U14S is a complete premium quality solution that combines superb performance, high compatibility and quiet operation.

NH-U14S

Reasonable size for better overall compatibility

Standing 165mm tall, the NH-U14S is short enough to fit most modern high-end cases. Measuring 150mm wide (including fan and fan clips), the NH-U14S provides better compatibility with SLI and CrossFire setups as compared to tower coolers that are wider than 150mm or use fans wider than 150mm.

NH-U14S

Full RAM compatibility on AM5 & AM4

With its 52mm slim design, the NH-U14S will not overhang the RAM slots on AMD AM5 and AM4 motherboards, thus guaranteeing full compatibility with tall memory modules. On Intel (LGA1851, LGA1700, LGA1200, LGA115x) motherboards, the front fan will often overhang the first RAM slot, so please verify RAM and case compatibility in the Noctua Compatibility Centre (ncc.noctua.at).

NH-U14S DX-3647 fan

NF-A15 140mm PWM Fan

The NF-A15 is a premium quality quiet 140mm fan with a round frame that complies with Noctua's AAO standard. Featuring sophisticated aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels, the NF-A15 further improves the renowned quiet cooling performance of the award-winning NF-P14.

NT-H1

NT-H1 thermal compound

Noctua's much-acclaimed NT-H1 is a well proven pro-grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease-of-use and outstanding reliability, which makes it suitable for use in professional server and workstation environments.

Whisper quiet
Bought this to cool my Ryzen 2600X when it first came out. I promptly bought a second NHA15 for a push-pull config to try and help with manually overclocking the chip to maintain 4.2GHz on all 6 cores.Replaced the CPU with an 5700X and kept the cooler. I haven't been bothered manually overclocking the 5700X but am getting a steady 34⁰C on a mild December with 19⁰C temperature inside the house. It gets up to 70⁰C when playing MSFS2020 or Forza Motorsport, with boost clocks of 4.55GHz on more than 4 cores. It's a solidly built heatsink and delivers good thermals for an air cooler. Admittedly, the lower TDP of the R7 5700X should lead to lower overall temps Vs the 2600X.

The item is clearly well made and very good quality. It replaced a much smaller fan - this one is huge, the heat-sink takes a large amount of space inside the tower, but it is well worth it as the cpu now runs significantly cooler. I dare say my original heatsink and fan was not up to the job as the cpu temperatures were running higher than I would have liked and the fan was noisier than it was when I ran a lesser processor. Having upgraded the processor and not the heatsink fan, I have had time to realise the difference that this, often overlooked and arguably unsexy part of a pc can make. My pc is now whisper quiet with cpu temperatures cut by half or more and surprisingly, I have a substantially faster pc after the upgrade that suddenly met the criteria for Windows 11! Honestly, the difference was that great, and the first time after installing this and booting my pc, it gave me the option to upgrade (previously Microsoft had said that I did not meet the criteria).

Set aside about an hour to read the instructions and become familiar with what you have bought before installation. You will need to see both sides of the motherboard to mount the heatsink as the mounting bracket fits on the back of the motherboard using pins that then go through the board and secure the heatsink. If you can imagine, the processor and motherboard are sandwiched between the mounting bracket and the heatsink. Building pcs is not my job, so many people might be more familiar with this concept, but my old one simply clipped in place. Once I'd realised the difference, it was a quick job and if I had to do it again, I think it would take me no more than 15 minutes. One other small word of advice would be to use some 99.9% isopropanol alcohol to properly clean the processor prior to installation as a new tube of high quality thermal paste comes with the product and you will want to make sure that it is applied to a clean surface.

This is an extreme performance air cooler! I'm very much against water cooling because of the risk of risk of leaks, because radiators are difficult to clean and because fans need to be powerful and noisy. Custom loops are also very expensive and maintenance takes a lot of time.
I'm also against dual tower designs because they are too heavy and might damage the motherboard and/or CPU. Dual fan radiators are not allways better than this radiator.
This cooler keeps my very hot AMD FX-9370 (8x 4.7GHZ) at between 1 and 60 degrees C with the original fan. If more performance is need one can add two high pressure & speedy fans (which are usually noisy). I have a big case which is well ventilated. Room temperature is between 21 and 27 degrees C.
The included fan is not the most silent possible but the included adapter makes it very quiet (and less efficient of course). I'm not using this silencer.
The fan is also a tiny bit bigger than a 140 mm square frame fan.
The retention system is very well designed, almost perfect.
In conclusion considering price, quality, noise, performance, ease of installation, weight, durability, customer support: best CPU cooler EVER!
    Possible improvements:
    - for even better performance I wish it was slightly bigger because my case would accept a taller wider and longer heatsink;
    - direct contact heat pipes or mirror finish for the contact surface might improve performance a tiny bit more
    - wire holders for fans are much better than any other system I used before but still could still be improved

I actually managed 4.7ghz overclock on my i5 4670k and running the usual games for hours on end it was fine.. The temps was fine even at the full speed without the quiet adaptor its audible but not annoyingly loud this is in a case without the side on it. Its quiet so quiet compared to a reference cooler. If your unsure about going with water cooling go with this.

ONE NOTE THAT NO REVIEWERS HAVE SAID IN THEIR YOUTUBE VIDEOS, IT COMES WITH AN X PLATE AND REQUIRES PUTTING ON THE BACK OF YOUR MOTHERBOARD!!
Instructions seem simple enough. Maybe a little confusion for a moment thinking its not going to sit right but it does look at the picture and that. I have the fan facing towards the ram because it pulls air onto the heatsink which then goes out the back of the case where the exhaust fan is at.

Honestly the stuff you get in the box and the quality. It also looks better in person i will recommend this everybody it is an absolute beauty and a beast. Very quiet very high quality. Once you go noctua you don't go back. Ignore your hate for the color scheme when you buy it, it doesn't look too bad. It may stick out if your all nit picky about colour schemes but nothing will serve you as good as a noctua.

Another note the U14s i think stands for 140mm this is the one 140 and the U12 will probably be 120mm this is the fan size. The 140 will generally give you slightly lower temps and/or less noise due to the amount of air it shifts.

It is a little on the big side check if you have room or just go without the side panel on the case like i did. Its not like its a bother.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great results, quiet, and quality product
Reviewed in the United States on 22 June 2021
    Size Name: 12 VoltsVerified Purchase
My home server is running an Intel Core i7 5820x (passed down from my wife's previous media-creation rig) on an old Lepa liquid cooler. Sadly, the pump on that cooler finally died. I only knew this because the server would lock up and turn-off ungracefully after being on for ~20 minutes. After a couple iterations of this, I checked the HW temps after the next boot up and watched the CPU temps slowly climb to 105C before the computer died again. A smarter man would have shut the server off before it got that hot, but fortunately the CPU still seems ok.

I didn't want spend a small fortune on another liquid cooling solution now knowing that a water pump can fail and you won't know it until it's too late. There's no easy way of diagnosing a failed water pump; at least with an air-cooling-only solution, the only moving part is the fan and it's easy to see if it's still spinning or not. So I grabbed the first air-cooler I could get next-day that looked reliable after a few minutes of research and this is what I bought.

It arrived the next afternoon as promised and I was immediately impressed with the packaging, build, included brackets for socket compatibility, and that a tube of thermal grease was included (vs re-applied, lower-quality paste). I don't build PCs regularly, but one or two a year - enough to see the progression of CPU sockets over the years and was glad this didn't require a backing plate. Though that seems to be a feature of LGA 2011 moreso than the cooler, but still nice to know for builders that you don't have the potential struggles with gaining access to both sides of the mobo. Anyway, the instructions were well-written and clear and I was able to get the new cooler installed in a few minutes.

Most impressively, the results were clear. Now, take this with a grain of salt because dust hasn't settled in yet and the CPU hasn't been pushed yet, but at idle, it is running at 20C/70F with this cooler and I can't hear the fan - at least not over the case fans. If I hadn't watched the temps creep up over boiling the previous day, I would have doubted these numbers. I honestly didn't expect ambient-air temps were possible on a CPU on an air cooling solution. I am looking at a Ryzen 7 5800X to upgrade my gaming rig and now I'm seriously considering this as the cooler for that too.

The only downside is that because of the size, the air-duct that came with my PC's case - mounted to the side fan - had to come off, so this CPU cooler probably won't fit in smaller (thinner) PC cases.

Polecam to chłodzenie do ciepłych procesorów.

    Consideraciones:

    Assolutamente consigliato.
